Manteo and Roanoke Island
Pair the walkable Manteo waterfront with a museum, garden, aquarium or historic site. Verify hours and timed-entry needs, especially during peak summer and special events.
Bodie Island and Oregon Inlet
From Nags Head, the lighthouse area and Oregon Inlet are natural extensions of a southern outing. Check National Park Service access, climbing and construction updates before driving.
Hatteras Island
Hatteras makes a long but memorable day from the northern beaches. Choose a small number of stops, monitor weather and road conditions, and avoid committing to a rigid dinner reservation back north.
Ocracoke considerations
Ocracoke requires ferry planning and is not a casual add-on from Corolla or Duck. Review current ferry schedules, reservations and total travel time before promising the trip to the group.

From Nags Head or Kitty Hawk, combine Duck and Corolla into one northern day. Visit the lighthouse or village first, then stop in Duck on the return trip rather than making separate drives.
