Getting to and Around the Outer Banks
Most guests arrive by road through one of two main bridge approaches. A little timing strategy matters on peak turnover days.

The northern approach
US 158 crosses the Wright Memorial Bridge into Kitty Hawk and is the usual route for Kitty Hawk, Southern Shores, Duck and Corolla. Traffic commonly builds on summer Saturdays and Sundays.
The southern approach
US 64 crosses through Roanoke Island toward Nags Head and may be useful for Nags Head arrivals depending on your starting point. Follow current navigation and official traffic notices.
Turnover-day timing
Avoid relying on a last-minute grocery stop near check-in. Shop earlier, use pickup when available and keep your arrival plan flexible until the ready message arrives.
Driving between towns
The map can make distances look short, but seasonal traffic, stoplights and the two-lane northern corridor add time. Combine activities geographically rather than crossing the entire area each day.
